Sacramento Japantown History Museum Project
The Sacramento Japantown museum exhibit will be an immersive experience, bringing the lost neighborhood back to life through sound, light, artifacts, and community storytelling. For generations, Sacramento Japantown was a vibrant cultural and economic center. The physical neighborhood was devastated by forced removal during World War II and later demolished by downtown redevelopment. But the story lives on and its legacy still matters today.
The ABAS Law Foundation is working with Reclaim Sacramento Japantown in creating the first Japantown exhibit at the Sacramento History Museum in Old Sacramento. The exhibit is scheduled to open in October 2026 and run through February 2027. Updates will be posted on this page as the project progresses.
Funding is needed to help fulfill this project. Donors of $1,000 or more who give by September 12, 2026, will be recognized at the exhibit as partners in this historic effort. Your donation will help ensure that the Sacramento Japantown stories will be seen, heard, and remembered.
